    WHIPPOORWILL DRIVE – ROAD CLOSURE

    Whippoorwill Drive will be closed for repair work beginning Wednesday, November 1st from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  We anticipate the project will take approximately five (5) working days, and will keep residents posted as we obtain additional information.  Traffic control will be on site for the duration of the project.  Please contact Town Hall at 304-822-5118 if you have any questions regarding this matter.  Thank you for your patience in this matter.

    The Romney Historic Landmark Commission will hold the next Romney on the Menu History Lunch on Thursday, November 9th at 12:00 noon.  Bring a lunch and a friend to the Hampshire County Co-op and Heritage Marketplace to hear Louisa Hardy discuss growing up in this historic town.  Hope to see you there!

    ROMNEY ON THE MENU – DATE CHANGE FOR OCTOBER!!
    The Romney Historic Landmark Commission is changing the day and time for the Romney on the Menu History Talk to Saturday, October 14th at 6:00 pm.  The event will still take place at the Hampshire County Co-op and Heritage Marketplace, but in order to try and reach a broader audience, and those who are unable to attend on weekdays, we are going to try a Sunday evening.  We hope everyone can join us for Genevieve Heatwole.  DINNER WILL NOT BE PROVIDED, but feel free to bring a snack or your beverage of choice.  Also, pleae email info@cityofromney.org if you have any questions about this event.

    The General Federation of Women’s Club Halloween Parade will be held on Tuesday, October 31st at 5:15 pm.  The parade route will start on Rosemary Lane at the Romney Community Pool, and end at FNB Bank.  Town Police will be on site to stop traffic at the intersection of Bolton Street and Rosemary Lane.  Trick or Treating will begin after the parade at approximately 6:00 PM and will end at 8:00 PM.  We hope everyone has a very fun and safe Halloween!

    CANCELLED!  Ralph Keaton Memorial Golf Tournament
    Thank you to everyone who helped to sponsor the Rotary Golf Tournament scheduled for Saturday, September 30th. Unfortunately, due to circumstances and factors beyond our control it does not appear that we will have the number of teams needed to meet our other two objectives. It is for this reason that we have decided to postpone the tournament until April 2018.

    COMMUNITY CLEANUP DAY
    Refresh-Restart-Romney will hold a Community Cleanup Day on Saturday, August 26, starting out at Town Hall at 8:00 am.  We have a great momentum going and have received tremendous support from the community, but we have a long way to go!  Please come out and show your support!  BYOB! (Bring Your Own Broom!)

    REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
    The Regular meeting of the Romney City Council will be held one week later than usual because of the Labor Day holiday.  The meeting will take place on Monday, September 11th, 2017 at 7:00 pm.

    Please join the Town of Romney Historic Landmarks Commission for its second “Romney on the Menu” Brown-Bag History Lunch on Thursday, August 10th.  PLEASE NOTE we are changing the venue to the Hampshire Co-op and Heritage Marketplace on S. Marsham Street.  Lunch will begin at 12:00 noon, and we will begin our discussion with Jane Wright Slocum around 12:30 pm.  And don’t worry if you forget to bring a lunch – Lill’s Grill will be on site for anyone who wants to purchase a cheesesteak or a salad!

    PEACH FESTIVAL STREET CLOSINGS
    The following streets will be closed this weekend for the Peach Festival:
    Saturday August 5th, from 7:00 a.m. until Sunday, August 6th at 8:00 p.m. – S. High Street between Main Street & Gravel Lane
    CAR SHOW:  Saturday, August 5th, from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. – N. Grafton Street between Main Street & Rosemary Lane
    PARADE ROUTE:  Saturday, August 5th, from 3:00 p.m. until after the parade – N. Bolton Street & N. High Street,  between W. Rosemary Lane & W. Birch Lane
    The parade will begin at 4:00 pm on Saturday.  We hope everyone comes out and has a fantastic time at the 2017 West Virginia Peach Festival!!

    The Refresh-Restore Romney Committee is having their first Community Clean-Up event on Saturday, July 29 at 8:00 am.  Anyone interested in helping brighten up our town just in time for the Annual Peach Festival, will be welcome with open arms, shovels and rakes!  We will meet at 8:00 am at City Hall, break into groups and head downtown to clean up some area that are in need of some TLC!  Hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be provided.  For additional information, please contact Nancy Merritt at 301-268-0680 or email info@CityofRomney.com.  Anyone who is unable to participate in the event on Saturday, but is interested in contributing to the effort, may make donations at City Hall, 340 E.     Street paving in Romney will begin on Monday, July 10, weather permitting.    Please see the attached notice regarding paving schedule.  We ask that you do not park your vehicles along the streets being paved between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, on their scheduled paving day.  Click here the paving schedule.
    BROWN-BAG HISTORY LUNCH
    The Romney Historic Landmark Commission will be hosting its first Brown-Bag History Lunch on Thursday, July 13 at 12:00 noon.  The featured guest speaker will be Norwood Haines.  Bring a lunch and hear about the good ole’ days!

    • Farewell Luncheon
      Today the employees of the City of Romney hosted a farewell luncheon in honor of Mayor Daniel O. Hileman.  Mayor Hileman has faithfully served this community for 13 years, as Mayor and Councilman, and has made huge strides in the City’s infrastructure.  Thank you, Mayor Hileman, for all you have done for Romney.

    The Hampshire County Arts Council is proud to present Seth Maynard and Rich Norwood at The Bottling Works at 426 E. Main Street, Romney, WV on Friday June 9th at 7:30 pm.  They will be playing a mix of jazz, Bossa nova, blues and some oldies.  Tickets are $10 ($8 for members) and can be purchased at the door or on-line at http://www.hampshirearts.org/.  Sponsored by the Hampshire County Arts Council.

    Don’t forget to vote!  Early voting has already begun at City Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm until Friday, June 9.  City Hall will also be open on Saturday, June 10 from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, ONLY for voting purposes.  On Election Day, Tuesday, June 13, the polls will open at 6:30 am and will close at 7:30 pm. There will be a Special Public Meeting on Monday, June 19 at 9:00 am to canvass the results from the June 13, 2017 Election.
